STEP Student Achieving in Design-o-Rama Contest:
STEP Student Mehvish Amanullah won the trophy and the cash prize (of Rs. 50, 000) in the Design-o-Rama fashion contest. The event was organised by The Fakir Khana Trust and one of key objectives was to promote amateur fashion designers.
The competition was held on Saturday, April 16, 2005 in the Pearl Continental Hotel, Lahore . The fabulous event was added even further attraction with a pool of almost all popular designers of country. The jury was a panel of designers and fashion icons, including Ms. Neelofar Shahid, Mr. Deepak Parwani, Mr. Rizwan Beyg, Ms. Amna Shafaq, Mr. Noomi Qamar and Mr. Ahmed Hassan Qureshi.
The theme of Mehvish's lavishing collection was “hijab” … quite a tough one for a student to portray & design on!! However, Mehvish was absolutely fab with her fifteen costumes made in three major lines: Traditional, Modern & Experimental.
Scoring highest in the “Modern” line, she was remarkably noticed by the jury which appreciated her modern lines and the difficult theme that she dared with. Another wonderful fact that got appreciated was that she was the only student who participated only after two semesters of her course, totally unlike others and getting onto a professional ramp in just eight months is something that makes a real historic record for Fashion schools in the country!
Mehvish in her own words:
“… part of me was scared of participating as others have almost finished with their studies, working on final collections and I just hold an eight month studies … but the other part was really positive and motivating since the first day of my efforts. Thank goes deeply to my ‘so much dedicated teachers' and the management which has always stands beside us and giving us opportunities; the thought that ‘I am actually on the ramp in just 8 months, whereas others have been able to do so after two, three years' … wow, that's mind blowing! What else a student asks for! Hats off to our teachers and the school. I am very happy to get the trophy and the prize and I really am proud of STEP…”
… Well that was Mehvish in all her jubilations … Congratulations once again and we would also like to thank Roma Khan and Shireen Batool who took their part bravely as models.
What else to say … other than …
STEP to lead … rest to follow !!
